Weekend Adventures for the Whole Family in Jacó
Jacó is often known for its beach, surfing, and nightlife, but there is another side of town that families can enjoy. From parks and skateparks to places to eat, play, and explore nature, there are plenty of ways to spend a weekend in Jaco and the surrounding area.Whether you’re visiting for the first time, already live in the area, or are just a short drive away, a weekend in Jacó is a great way to enjoy or to rediscover the town.
We spoke with Diana Vittola, a real estate agent who has called Jacó home for more than 10 years, to get her local perspective on some of the family-friendly places and activities worth checking out.
Diana shared some of the places and activities she and her family enjoy and would recommend, giving us an idea of what a family weekend in Jacó could actually look like.
Friday: An Easy Evening in Town
After arriving in Jacó, keep your first evening simple. Take a walk along the beach, grab dinner, and enjoy being in town without having to get back in the car.
Jacó Walk is an open air center and an easy stop for families, with restaurants, shops, open spaces, and places for kids to play and enjoy. If the kids still have energy after dinner, DiscoPlay at Plaza Coral is another fun option, especially for younger children.
Saturday: Beach Time
A family weekend in Jacó wouldn’t be complete without some beach time!
You don’t have to just surf to enjoy it. Take a walk, play in the sand, watch the surfers, or simply spend some time by the ocean enjoying the breeze. As Diana shared, one of the best things about living in Jacó is that the beach can become part of your everyday routine, not something reserved for special occasions.
For something more active, check out the Centro Cívico Skatepark, a popular spot for skateboards, or visit BacPark By 10Cio, a family-friendly sports and entertainment space in Jacó, right next to PuddleFish. It features a café, rock climbing, BMX, skateboarding, scooters, and other activities for kids and adults.
These spaces offer a chance to see a different side of Jacó and experience some of the town’s local skate and action-sports culture.
You can also stop by Costanera, one of Jacó’s newer plazas, with familiar spots like Mocapan, KFC, Fresh Market, and Little Caesars. It’s a convenient place to grab a meal, coffee, or something quick, with open spaces where you can relax and spend the afternoon.
Sunday: Explore Beyond Jacó
If you want to venture a little farther, Croc Skywalk, located next to the Tárcoles Bridge, makes a great Sunday outing. It gives families the chance to explore Costa Rica’s natural surroundings while enjoying a fun experience with the kids.
