The World Still Feels Close
When we first start dreaming about life in Jacó, Herradura, Playa Hermosa, or Esterillos, we were concerned that living by the beach would mean feeling far away from all the other things that really matter: family and the rest of the world. In reality, that has not been our experience at all.
There is something reassuring about knowing you can enjoy the slower pace, the ocean air, and the beauty of this part of Costa Rica without feeling cut off. One of the biggest reasons we chose the Central Pacific was its access to Route 27 and the International airport. These have also played a major role in the development of tourism and access in this region.
We are not alone, for many families, that convenience has become part of the lifestyle. You can spend your mornings near the ocean, enjoy the rhythm of beach-town living, and still know that getting to city or Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José and beyond as very normal part of life. Believe me, that is a bigger deal than many people realize at the beginning.
The airport connection matters
Juan Santamaría International Airport, or SJO, is Costa Rica’s main gateway and offers a broad list of international destinations. According to the airport’s official connectivity page, SJO currently has nonstop service to major U.S. cities including Miami, Dallas, Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, New York, Houston, Newark, and San Francisco, depending on carrier and season. The same official source also lists nonstop service to Toronto and Montreal in Canada, plus direct links to Paris, London, Amsterdam, Madrid, Frankfurt, and Zurich in Europe.
That is the part that changes the conversation for many buyers. This is not beach living that leaves you stranded. This is beach living with a realistic path back to your family when you want to be there for a birthday, a graduation, a holiday, or just one of those weekends when you miss the grandkids and decide it is time to go. It also works the other way around. Family can come to you without the trip feeling overly complicated, especially when they can fly nonstop into SJO from major hub cities.
Emotional as much as practical
We hear this all the time. People are not just buying a home or condo in the Central Pacific because it is beautiful. They are buying because they want a better quality of life without losing their connection to the people they love.
That is why airport access matters on a much deeper level than logistics. It is not just about flights. It is about peace of mind. It is about knowing that a life in Costa Rica does not have to mean choosing between paradise and family. It can mean having both.
For grandparents especially, this becomes very real. There is a big difference between feeling like you moved “far away” and feeling like you simply live somewhere wonderful with a practical route back home. The second version is the one we see most often. Buyers relax when they realize that Jacó and the rest of the Central Pacific are not some distant outpost. They are part of a lifestyle that still keeps the world within reach which means freedom.
Once people settle into life here, many start thinking beyond visits back to the U.S. or Canada. They begin thinking about where else they want to go. A beach-based home in Costa Rica can also become a launch point for the next chapter of travel.
A world travelers dream
For some of us the narrative will quickly turn form “Can we live in Costa Rica?” to “What kind of life do we want to build from here?” Maybe that means quick trips back to see family. Maybe it means taking the family on an adventure in Costa Rica. Maybe it means finally planning those bigger journeys you always talked about, because now your home base already feels like a destination.
There is something special about that. The Central Pacific gives you the beauty and calm that many people are looking for, but it does not have to shrink your world. In a lot of ways, it can expand it.
Why this matters
This is one of the most underrated advantages of buying in Costa Rica’s Central Pacific. People understandably focus first on the obvious things: the beach, the weather, the rental potential, the views, the lifestyle. Those things matter.
But the practical side of ownership matters too, and access is a big part of that.
The link between the capital and the Central Pacific has been important enough that the road operator describes it as a key driver of tourism and development in the region. That is not just infrastructure talk. It is everyday lifestyle value. In our experience, buyers appreciate this more and more over time. At first, it is a nice bonus. Later, it becomes one of the reasons the decision feels smart.
A life by the beach does not have to feel far away
That may be our favorite part of this conversation. The Central Pacific gives you the feeling of escape that so many people want, but it still keeps you connected to what matters most. You can build a life near the ocean, stay close to nature, enjoy a more relaxed pace, and still have a clear path back to your loved ones, and the rest of the world when it calls.
That is not just convenient. It is comforting. It is exactly the kind of balance we all need.
